Hello! My name is Erin Kay and I am so excited to be starting my 11th year teaching.
I went to the University of Utah where I was a student-athlete. I played soccer there for four years-- GO UTES! ! I graduated with a bachelor's in Mass Communications in 2005 and that summer I had an epiphany while driving on the freeway that I wanted to be an elementary teacher (both my parents were teachers, so not a shocker!). I got my license and I taught 2nd grade for five years at a charter school here in Utah. I then took a break from teaching to pursue other endeavors, but the classroom called me back in 2020 and I am so happy to be teaching young children again; it's truly my calling!
My husband and I got married in 2006 after we met in college (he was a Univ. of Utah baseball player) and we had our son, Tanyen, in 2017. My boys are my life! I enjoy reading detective novels, running/working out, playing sports with my son, watching all sports, hanging out with our families, meditation, yoga, eating out, and going to the pool in the summer!
I enjoy seeing the light bulb go off in a children's expression when they've mastered a certain skill or understand a concept. I love my students like they are my own and I encourage an extremely positive environment that fosters respect, compassion, teamwork, citizenship, integrity, responsibility, and determination. We also have fun! We are the "Kay's Kritters" in my classroom-our motto is: Work hard, play hard.
I am so thrilled to be your child's teacher this year. It's going to be a great one.
